One of the largest expenses a family can have is gasoline, especially if you like taking road trips. The average family spends about $3,000 per year on gas! Many of us take advantage of savings on gas like filling up at wholesale clubs or using grocery store rewards programs. However, I have found GasBuddy to be even more valuable to saving money at the pump! Can you believe that I saved more money with GasBuddy than filling up at Costco and using my 4% cash back Costco Anytime credit card?

Here’s how I’m saving!

GasBuddy Review

GasBuddy is a free app that is available to download for iOS or Android. The best feature of the app alone is the ability to instantly search for the cheapest gas prices in your area. It is as simple as pushing the “Find Gas Near You” button, and you will find the cheapest gas in your area.

Just hit the button and you will be served all of your gas stations in your area!

How To Save Money On Gas With Pay With GasBuddy

While this app is convenient, it can also save you money! If you see in the bottom bar, there is a button called “wallet”.

This is the Pay With GasBuddy program, and I’ve been able to extract some great savings so far. And the best part is how simple it actually is.

There are three membership options – Free, Plus, and Premium.

Right now, I’m only using the Free version as my wife and I don’t drive very often. If you drive a decent amount, the cost of Plus ($4.99/month) could be worth it when saving 20 cents a gallon! Fill up 25 gallons and you’ve covered the monthly fee.

The Premium version is $7.99 a month and comes with services similar to AAA. Buy at least 40 gallons of gas with Pay With GasBuddy and now you’re making money!

The savings can be substantial depending on how much you drive!

When you sign up for the wallet it will directly connect with your checking account from your bank. Once that is complete, you will register a “driver ID” which you insert into the pump each time you fill up.

In this specific fillup, the price was $2.47/gallon. With GasBuddy, I was able to drop it to $2.42 with the 5 cents off per gallon. Not much, but it’s something.

However, the “#905: Coupon 1” is my Smith’s Grocery Fuel Rewards that my wife and I earn for grocery shopping. Our favorite grocery store card right now is the American Express Gold Card that earns 4 points per dollar at grocery stores. With these rewards, I was able to save $1.00 off per gallon.

The final tally is bringing the price down from $2.47 to $1.42 a gallon, roughly a 43% savings!

Keep in mind, Pay With GasBuddy does not work at wholesale clubs like Costco or Sam’s Club.
