My wife and I were going to Las Vegas so I could compete in the April 2013 Spartan Super race (save 15% on registration fees with my link!), so we needed to book a room in Las Vegas. I had been contacted by Hilton Grand Vacations Club to attend a presentation in Las Vegas, so things worked out great. The offer was for 15,000 Hilton HHonors points, a 3 day / 2 night stay, and I would receive a $200 voucher towards a future one-night stay at any Hilton property. All we had to do was attend a 90-minute presentation at the Hilton Grand Vacations Suites on the Las Vegas Strip. I took the bait.

Booking the Hilton Grand Vacations Suites On The Las Vegas Strip
We originally booked the trip to start on a Friday night and conclude on Sunday night. When you book your stay, you also book your timeshare presentation time. It can’t be on the day you arrive, nor on the day you leave. [By the way, a completely stupid rule!!!] At the time, I wasn’t sure of my race window, so I rescheduled our arrival date to be on Saturday and departure to be on Monday. This way, our presentation could be on Sunday. Unfortunately, they charge you for rescheduling your stay. [Again, a completely stupid rule!!! Extra fees certainly don’t make me want to buy your product… if they charge you all these fees while they’re trying to sell you, just think how it will be once you’ve already bought.]
If you like the room below, but don’t want to bother with a timeshare presentation, you can pay cash or Hilton HHonors points for your stay. Here are sample rates for September 21 thru 23, 2013.
Or, if you don’t care about getting Hilton HHonors points or stay credit, you can book at PointsHound for $42/night less AND earn airline miles. Our Room At The Hilton Grand Vacations Suites on the Las Vegas Strip
We were booked into a one-bedroom unit that was very spacious.
There was a full kitchen to make a meal, reheat leftovers, or even chill some adult beverages.
The bedroom was very comfortable.
And there was a nice soaking tub between the bedroom and bathroom.
The shower felt SOOOO good after my muddy race! =)
Once showered and relaxing after the race, we enjoyed the nice view from our room.
Hilton Grand Vacations Suites on the Las Vegas Strip Resort Property
My wife is in school for her MBA, so she was upstairs studying, writing papers, and doing homework, while I explored the property.
There is a nice gym. I try to work out on vacation, but after the Spartan Super race, I was in no mood.
The lounge is a nice place to relax and meet some new people. When I meet new people at a timeshare location, they’re generally a good resource for insights to the program and which properties you must visit… and those to stay away from!
There are plenty of food options. There is a market that has a kitchen and a deli, on top of food items you can take back to your room to cook. I ordered a pizza and bought some beer at the cafe.
My wife enjoyed some great sandwiches from the deli counter.
After getting something tasty to eat, I ventured out to the pool where there were a couple of spas, numerous BBQs (one of my favorite features at timeshares!), a poolside bar, and a large pool.
I’m not a big gambler, so the spa was a great way to spend the evening while Anna was studying.
The Benefits From Attending the Timeshare Presentation
We earned 15,000 Hilton HHonors points, which used to be worth so much more before Hilton’s point devaluation earlier this year. According to the Hilton HHonors award chart, 15,000 points will get you two nights in a Category 1 or one night in a Category 2 room, which are primarily Hampton or Homewood Inns.
We stayed in a really nice room for 2 nights, that was within walking distance of the north side of the Las Vegas Strip (about 2 blocks north of Circus Circus), and about a block south of the Stratosphere.
We earned a $200 certificate towards our next stay at a Hilton property. There were some limitations to using it. The certificate was good for only 1 night, so you couldn’t apply it towards a multi-night stay (ie: if room is $129/night for 2 nights, you would max out at $129 reimbursement). Also, the properties were limited to “Hilton” hotels. You couldn’t stay at a DoubleTree, Garden Inn, or any of the other Hilton brands. This severely limits your options.
We found a nice getaway to the Hilton Del Mar, near San Diego. It was a short drive from our home, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We stayed there the weekend after Fourth of July, and I submitted the reimbursement paperwork right away. We’re still waiting for the reimbursement, but I expect it to take a normal 8-10 weeks processing time.

Conclusion
The Hilton Grand Vacations Suites on the Las Vegas Strip is a great property at a reasonable price. We love the spaciousness of the one-bedroom, but there are also Studio (aka typical hotel room size) and 2-bedroom units available. The bonus Hilton HHonors points were nice to add to our point balance. But the best reward was the $200 towards a future stay. I would totally recommend considering this location for your future stay, especially if you have kids. The pools are great, and snacks and quick meals are just an elevator ride away. It’s close enough to the action on The Las Vegas Strip, but far enough away for families to enjoy a nice getaway without dealing with the smoking and casino action that is typical at other hotels.

I attended a presentation in Orlando in mid-May, but have not yet seen my HH points for attending as being posted yet. A phone call to them said it could possibly take up to 90 days. How long did it take before your points were credited to your account?
Hi Suzanne, I looked at my Hilton history and the last entry I can see is August 2013. I did the presentation in April, so the points posted sometime between April 2013 and August 2013. I wish that I could see more history on my Hilton account online to give you an accurate detail of my experience. Please let me know when the points post!
Which Orlando resort did you stay at? What did you think of the resort? How was the presentation – high pressure or mild? When we went, the person could tell that I knew a lot about timeshares, so he was really mellow with us. He asked that we keep an open mind, which we did. At the end of the presentation, we told him that we were not interested in buying. After we turned down the alternative option/package he offered, we were free to leave without any further pressure. Overall, we had a good experience.
