They try to monitor search volumes and limit seats offered at the lowest prices so that you’ll be forced to buy the same seat at a higher price later. This is one reason I love Southwest. If I plan on traveling, I will immediately buy a ticket with points, then cancel or rebook later at no charge if the price drops.
