The benefits of becoming an IHG Ambassador member continue to increase. Now you can also redeem your BOGO free night at Kimpton or Regent and receive Ambassador benefits when staying at Regent Hotels. If you’re still on the fence about joining or its time to renew, here’s one more reason. When you take advantage of this IHG Ambassador membership offer, you’ll receive an extra free night worth up to 40,000 points.

How much does it cost to become an IHG Ambassador?

To become an IHG Ambassador member, you’ll have to pay. You cannot earn this elite status based on your stays, points earned, or how much you spend on your credit card.

To join, click this IHG Ambassador membership offer link and pay the $200 or redeem 40,000 points. Personally, I recommend paying the $200 with your Chase IHG Rewards Club card and save your points to redeem for a future hotel stay.

What benefits are included within IHG Ambassador?

When you use this IHG Ambassador membership offer to receive IHG Ambassador elite status, you’ll receive the following benefits:

  • Automatic IHG Rewards Club Platinum elite status
  • Guaranteed one-category room upgrade at check-in when staying at InterContinental hotels and resorts
  • Complimentary weekend night as 2nd night of paid stay (once per year)
  • Guaranteed 4 pm late checkout
  • $20 credit towards restaurants and bars
  • Complimentary daily mineral water bottle
  • Free hi-speed WiFi internet access
  • Complimentary breakfast daily for one guest in the main restaurant (Greater China only)

In addition, your free weekend night benefit can be used at Kimpton Hotels and Regent Hotels & Resorts. Although you can still only use the BOGO free night on the weekend at InterContinental hotels, we found out that you can use your BOGO free night offer any night of the week at Kimpton and Regent.

Plus, you’ll receive IHG Ambassador benefits when you stay at Regent Hotels & Resorts through December 31, 2022.

The automatic IHG Rewards Club Platinum elite status provides benefits when staying at all other IHG hotels around the world.

What is the IHG Ambassador membership offer?

For a limited time, when you join or renew your membership with this IHG Ambassador membership offer, you’ll receive an additional free night after your first paid stay at eligible IHG hotels. This free night is worth up to 40,000 points, similar to the

Here are the steps to take:

  1. Mark your calendars for July 30, 2020.
  2. Any time from July 30 through November 15, 2020, go to the IHG Ambassador website with this link.
  3. Pay to join or renew your membership ($200 or 40,000 points).
  4. Complete one paid qualifying stay at InterContinental, Kimpton, or Regent hotel by January 31, 2021.
  5. Your free night will be deposited within 72 hours of checkout.
  6. Book your free night to be used by April 30, 2021.

Remember, this free night is in addition to the BOGO free weekend night that comes with IHG Ambassador membership. So, for the first year, you’ll receive 2 free nights, which makes the $200 membership fee an absolute steal.

What’s the fine print?

As with any offer, there is always some fine print on the deal that you should be aware of.

You can renew your IHG Ambassador membership up to 60 days in advance of expiration. Additionally, you can renew up to 30 days (through the end of the month) after your membership expires.

My IHG Ambassador membership expires in February 2021, so I won’t be able to take advantage of this IHG Ambassador membership offer. Missed it by about 2 weeks. Fingers crossed that it gets extended because this a tremendous bonus of an extra free night!

The free night is worth a maximum of 40,000 points. With IHG moving to flexible pricing on award redemptions, more and more of the premium hotels are falling under that ceiling.

This offer is not valid with complimentary Ambassador memberships or when using the IHG Employee discount.

The qualifying paid hotel stay must be at an InterContinental, Kimpton, or Regents hotel using a qualifying rate for at least one night. The total spend must be at least $30 per night for the hotel room.

Reward Nights do not count as Qualifying Stays.

No stays completed prior to enrollment or renewal count as a Qualifying stay for this promotion. This could be interpreted as stays in-progress counting for this promotion, but I wouldn’t test it. Make sure that you apply or renew prior to beginning any stays to be on the safe side.

How to maximize this IHG Ambassador membership offer

If you’re like me and want to maximize the deals you decide to participate in, here’s how to maximize the IHG Ambassador offer.

As an IHG Ambassador, you receive one BOGO free weekend night with a qualifying paid night at InterContinental, Kimpton, or Regent. Booking with this benefit uses the “Best Flexible Rate” for your paid night(s). And with it, your second night is free.

By signing up with the IHG Ambassador membership offer, you’ll receive an additional free night (to be used later) when booking an InterContinental, Kimpton, or Regent stay using an eligible rate. Because your night above uses the “Best Flexible Rate” code, it is considered an eligible stay.

Boom! With one paid night, you’re receiving two free nights (one now & one later) during the first year of your IHG Ambassador membership. That’s an incredible deal for $200!

Yes, you could save a little bit of money using a prepaid rate or some other special code, but you won’t earn two free nights that way. Personally, I’d rather spend a few extra bucks to earn those two free nights.

The Bald Thoughts

IHG Ambassador membership may not have appealed to you in the past because a majority of the benefits were focused on InterContinental hotels. Now that the benefits have been expanding to Kimpton and Regent, it has become more attractive. And with this IHG Ambassador membership offer, it is a total no-brainer if you love staying at IHG’s luxury hotels and resorts.

  1. Hi Lee,

Where does it mention on IHG about this extra free night? I didn’t see it on the link provided or anywhere on IHG about the added free night. Thanks for posting this.

    • Hey Megan, thanks. I’m pretty sure that any rate you book through IHG is fine. The stay must be at a Kimpton, InterContinental, or a Regent to qualify. Rates for travel agents or through OTAs, Groupon, etc don’t qualify.

  2. I’m in Long Beach, CA, so looking for a place nearby. The rates at the Intercontinental LA are pretty high right now. Were lower in the summer. There are also a few good Kimptons in LA, just need to wait for a good rate. Any suggestions for this area (within a few hours) are more than welcome!

    • The DTLA InterContinental is nice, but there’s not much to do in Downtown. Plus, parking is high in LA. The Shorebreak in HB is nice. Everly in Hollywood is one of my faves. Goodland near Santa Barbara has a cool vibe, but the rooms are pretty basic. Canary in Santa Barbara is awesome with a great rooftop pool.

    • Hey JR, I’m waiting for confirmation about purchasing online. But, when you purchase Ambassador at a hotel, it does code as a hotel purchase, just like as if you were paying for a room.
