These Airlines Let Fliers Reserve “Sleeping Rows” in Economy.

Even if you can’t afford Business or First Class, it’s still possible to get a good night of sleep when flying Economy. Of course, there are extra goodies you can bring with you to make it an even more comfortable experience. While it won’t be as good as sleeping in your own bed or at the hotel when you reach your destination. But, it will be better than trying to sleep sitting upright on a red-eye.

Why You Should Never Check a Bag.

I avoid checking bags whenever possible. I don’t want to arrive earlier than normal to wait in line, pay extra fees or wait around at baggage claim. This article details even more reasons why you should avoid checking bags, too. Listen in as three travel experts share personal anecdotes of their travel experiences with luggage.

United Is Changing the Biggest Annoyance of Basic Economy Fares On August 6th.

Basic Economy is a money-saving ticket that allows travelers to pick and choose which add-ons they’d like to pay for. While it can feel like you’re being nickel-and-dimed, you’ll save money in the long run by only paying for features you’re actually using. I typically don’t buy Basic Economy fares, so I didn’t know that United wouldn’t let you check in online if you bought one. With this new change, you can now check-in online as long as you agree to pay a huge fee if you try to sneak a carry-on bag onto the plane.

Hyatt partners with Under Canvas.

With this partnership, Hyatt will start to offer glamping experiences for members to earn and redeem points. Currently, there are 13 available locations in the U.S., but I can see that number growing quickly under this agreement. For people who love to camp (or are willing to try it), this is a huge opportunity for your next trip… especially considering that a few of these locations are located inside National Parks.

Why Flight Attendants Can’t Accept Tips.

In a world where it seems like everyone wants a tip these days (feel free to tip me here HAHA!), it is refreshing that flight attendants cannot accept tips. But have you ever wondered why that is? The biggest reason is that their job is to ensure your safety, not to serve you food and drinks. By not accepting tips, they can avoid seeming partial to one passenger or another in case of emergency.

  1. Most people pack way too much stuff for flying domestic. People spend hours scrounging for the best fare and then spend $100 flying a bag full of t-shirts and khaki pants. If you are in the US, you can get a full outfit at Old Navy for $25, then shove it in a unlimited weight box at the post office for $18 to mail it back home if you really want it. What US city doesn’t have a Target or WM to buy anything you need? It will not kill you to wear a collared shirt, pants and shoes on a flight (wearing your ‘heaviest’ clothes & shoes). I can pack everything I need for a 4-day trip in a small backpack. All you need is a change of clothes if you are stuck at the airport.

    • I agree. I think we’re all guilty about bringing wayyyyy too much stuff with us on trips. Over time, my backpack has gotten weighed down with extra cords, battery packs, etc. I need to clean it out to ensure I’m not bringing unnecessary items or duplicates.

I’m with you that you can always buy something extra that you need wherever you go in the U.S. However, I prefer to pack clothes that can mix & match to be used multiple times (except undies and socks) without requiring a washing machine. Items like clothing from Unbound Merino are excellent for this strategy.
