Do these points count toward the Companion Pass?

The Southwest Companion Pass is one of the best benefits from any domestic airline. With the Companion Pass, your designated companion can fly free (just pay taxes) on any flight that you’re on. It doesn’t matter if you paid cash, used points or booked with credits. They can fly for free after paying the associated taxes on the flight (starting at $5.60 for each one-way flight).

To earn the Southwest Companion Pass for 2024, you need to:

  • Fly 100 qualifying one-way flights
  • Earn 135,000 Companion Pass qualifying points

For most people, it is easier to earn the points than it is to take that many flights. This is especially true when there are so many ways to earn qualifying points. Qualifying points include:

  • Earning points from qualifying flights
  • Welcome bonuses from Southwest credit cards
  • Credit card purchases, including extra points from bonus categories
  • Partner hotel stays and rental cars
  • Dining at participating Rapid Rewards Dining locations
  • Online shopping through the Rapid Rewards Shopping portal
  • Other eligible partner activity

Occasionally, Southwest Airlines offers promotions like this one that also qualify toward the Companion Pass. So, yes, you can get closer to earning the Southwest Companion Pass through this promotion.
