The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is examining airline loyalty programs to protect members from unfair and deceptive practices in earning and redeeming rewards. Spirit Airlines considers bankruptcy filing, WSJ reports.

The DOJ blocked the merger between JetBlue and Spirit to keep prices competitive in the low-cost flight market. However, they may have messed up since it seems that Spirit Airlines may need to file for bankruptcy. What happens if Spirit goes away? Not only are jobs lost, but the competition that the combined JetBlue & Spirit would have offered is now lost in the marketplace.

When will American Airlines announce free WiFi?

Domestic airlines tend to operate in a “me too” manner. When one airline changes prices or fees, offers new benefits, or makes changes to its loyalty program, other airlines typically follow suit. Delta is rolling out free WiFi across its planes, so you should expect that American and United will soon offer it as well.
