With the opening of the Kimpton Gray Hotel, there are now 4 Kimpton properties in Chicago. I had the pleasure of staying at the Gray Hotel in early October during the Chicago Seminars. Like all other Kimptons, it was filled with character and made you feel at home. As an Inner Circle member, you now have the ability to book your free night at the Kimpton Gray Hotel.

Kimpton Gray Hotel
The Kimpton Gray Hotel is located downtown in the heart of The Loop within Chicago’s Financial District. The hotel is located at 122 West Monroe Street, Chicago, IL 60603.
The rooms are decorated in a “textured gray color palette” with a splash of “powdered blue, brass, and floral accents” to liven things up. There are xxx rooms at the Kimpton Gray Hotel that are converted from a former office building.
Standard rooms have 6 configurations ranging from 276 to 494 square feet – Queen, King, King Deluxe, Queen Queen Deluxe, King Spa, and King Spa Studio. The One Bedroom Suite maxes out at 618 square feet and includes a pull-out couch in the living room. The Presidential Suite is a massive 908 square feet, offers fresh cut flowers throughout, and includes a VIP Concierge consultation. You can even take home the two, iconic Kimpton robes to remember how amazing your stay was.

Baleo Rooftop Bar & Restaurant
Baleo is the rooftop restaurant and lounge that sits atop the Kimpton Gray Hotel. It features Latin American street food, live music, and craft cocktails.
With the Inner Circle free night, you used to receive a $50 dining credit for the on-site restaurant, but that benefit was eliminated effective January 1, 2017.
On the plus side, Inner Circle members also receive a Chef’s Taste whenever they stay with Kimpton and eat at the hotel’s restaurant. In the past, we’ve received some delicious appetizers like Ahi Poke at Zimzala or a plate of Sushi at Brandon’s.
Vol 39 Lobby Bar
The Lobby Bar at the Kimpton Gray Hotel is called Vol. 39, which pays homage to its design. When you step into the bar, you feel like you’re in a law library. However, instead of getting served with a subpoena, you’ll get served some amazing cocktails and beers.

All Kimpton Inner Circle members are offered a window of time, shortly after a new hotel opens, in which they can stay at the new property for free. I’ve used this benefit numerous times, including The Goodland near Santa Barbara, The Palladian in Seattle, The Shorebreak in Huntington Beach, and Hotel Tomo in San Francisco. We recently used this benefit at The Kimpton Tideline Ocean Resort & Spa near Miami, the Kimpton Glover Park Hotel in DC, and the Kimpton Journeyman in Milwaukee. I have an upcoming stay at the Kimpton Seafire Resort in Grand Cayman Islands for early 2017.
The Kimpton Gray Hotel free night benefit is available through April 30, 2017. As much as it pains me, I don’t think I can squeeze in a return trip to Chicago in time to redeem my free night. I had a fabulous stay at the Kimpton Gray Hotel in October 2016, but it was much too short and I was away from the property too much for the Chicago Seminars.

I became an Inner Circle member through a status match as a Hilton Diamond. With a status match, you need to stay a specific number of nights before you are eligible for the new hotel free night benefit. From what I understand, Kimpton is no longer offering status matches effective January 1, 2016, but it doesn’t hurt to try.
The Bald Thoughts
Chicago is a fun town to visit. And I’m pretty sure they’re still celebrating the Cubs’ first World Series win since the early 1900s. Public transportation is excellent and there are two major airports to fly in to. The Kimpton Gray Hotel has a design that draws you in. It is a very masculine building, accented with its imposing marble staircases, but there are fine touches within each room that soften the edges and make you feel so comfortable. The hotel’s primary colors may be gray, but you’ll be nothing but smiles after your Inner Circle free night.
