The Morning Shave

This Is the Grossest Thing You Can Do in Your Hotel Room, According to an Epidemiologist.

I don’t know why people have to be so gross inside hotel rooms. They do random acts with objects that most of us couldn’t even begin to comprehend. Luckily, I forget most of these disgusting things. Otherwise, I may never want to travel. HAHA!

IHG pushes ahead with signings.

Although there’s a potential for reduced travel demand as we head into Fall/Winter, IHG is continuing to sign new hotels in the U.S. and China. IHG is looking beyond the short-term weakness to build a stronger portfolio for the future. I love it when there are more options to earn and redeem hotel points!

Unlimited PTO is a high-stakes gamble.

Having unlimited vacation time sounds amazing. Until you realize that there’s a specific business reason behind it. In many states, vacation time is an “earned benefit,” which means the company owes you the money when you leave or if you don’t use it. By giving employees “unlimited” vacation time, there are no expenses to accrue and no money to pay out if it’s not used. Plus, you can bet your bottom dollar managers will be tracking how much you’ve used and penalize you (now or in the future) if you use too much.

Canada Jetlines Suspends Flights, To File For Creditor Protection.

The airline is temporarily suspending operations while it files for bankruptcy protection from its creditors. Jetlines launched in September 2022, but it was never fully able to build a sustainable business. Even if you’ve never flown the airline, you may have benefited from increased competition along the routes it served. With another airline potentially going away forever, consumers and business travelers will feel the pinch as competitor airlines increase fares.

These Airports Have the Most (and Least) TSA Complaints, According to a New Study.

Consider avoiding these airports or brace for drama at airport security on your next flight. While many of us only have one local airport to choose from, this info can help you decide where to travel to and which airports to steer clear of. And, if you must fly through that location, you can arrive at the airport a little earlier than normal to minimize the impact of any TSA issues.

  1. Interesting about PTO being an accrued liability if quantified. I offer it to my managers but I guess it’s more self-regulating with a small business.

    • How accruals for vacation/PTO/sick days work can vary by company and state. But generally you’re accruing the liability if you have to pay it out if they don’t use it.

For example, vacation is an “earned benefit” that you cannot lose. You can stop accruing more vacation once you hit the cap, but you don’t lose what you’ve earned.

  2. I wonder if the airports with more or less TSA complaints might be partly linked to culture or manners somehow. Are people more sensitive to rudeness in a smaller city or are those TSA agents more polite in Charlotte than in the NYC area? Is some of this general location. For example, when I go through security at SLC I’m usually much less stressed than say at Newark. Another issue might be surge issues. Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale always seem crappy to me at certain times due to vacation travel surges, cruise ship return days, etc. Then other airports with multiple TSA checkpoints can vary greatly but which one you use? Using the international entrance at Philly is usually better than the other checkpoints. Using the Miami terminal that serves Southwest is a crap show compared to the other TSA checkpoints.

    • That makes a lot of sense. Your attitude on different days also makes a lot of impact. Some days, you can easily brush it off. While others, it seems like a huge deal and you get majorly upset.
