New Airline Automatic Refund Rule Takes Effect: What Travelers Need to Know

Dealing with airlines when trying to get a refund can be a huge pain. They often give you the run-around, and when you finally get your money… it’s a flight credit instead of cold, hard cash. With the latest rules from the Department of Transportation, airlines must now automatically refund your money when you don’t accept the alternative itinerary when your flight is canceled or significantly changed. Other situations can also trigger an automatic refund, including optional services that don’t work, downgraded seating, and delayed baggage. This is a HUGE positive for all travelers, no matter which airline you prefer.

JetBlue TrueBlue expands status match to Frontier, Southwest and Spirit elites.

JetBlue is making a strong push to encourage travelers to book flights with them. With this promotion, you’ll be able to use your airline elite status to receive up to the TrueBlue Mosaic 2 level. JetBlue now accepts status matches from 7 different airline loyalty programs. However, as a Southwest fan, I’m a little frustrated that Companion Pass members are left out of this promotion. All three of the airlines mentioned above cannot qualify for Mosaic 2 status, no matter how high your status is with your current airline. Will you be taking advantage of this status match offer?

JetBlue to give extra-legroom seats more prominence.

Even if you don’t qualify for the JetBlue status match offer above, there’s more good news coming from the airline. During the booking process, it will be even easier to book Even More Space seats. Plus, JetBlue is opening its first two lounges in 2025 (Boston and JFK) and the airline will now allow Basic Economy passengers to bring a carry-on bag at no extra charge.
