The Morning Shave

Many limited-time Chase card perks for groceries and more extend into 2021. – That so many credit card issuers are extending perks into 2021 and announcing even more new promos (like Amex’s dining credits), should tell you that they don’t think normal travel routines will happen any time soon. They are hoping that the credits will entice you to keep your accounts open and continue paying the annual fee. Are you willing to keep your cards?

AmEx’s New Denver Centurion Lounge Takes Inspiration from the Rocky Mountains. – While it is sad that Timberline Steaks & Grille is no longer accepting Priority Pass benefits, I am very excited to try out the new Centurion Lounge. It is the 2nd-largest Centurion Lounge at 14,000 sq ft, complete with day spas, meditation rooms, spacious family rooms, and a game room with adult-size versions of checkers and Connect Four. How cool is that?

All the Ways the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Could Pan Out. – The IOC postponed the Tokyo Summer Olympics last year in the hopes that 2021 would be a better time to hold the event. Vaccines are being distributed, but most Olympic athletes don’t qualify for the first round and the IOC is not requiring vaccination to participate. Will the games go on without a hitch, will there be minor problems, or will they be a superspreader event? Who knows. I hope that all goes well because rooting our athletes on to victory is typically a unifying event for the country.

Save Money When Traveling By Knowing The Culture. – This article reinforces the idea that doing a little bit of homework before a trip can save you a lot of money. Locals will give you more respect if you know a bit of their language, or at least try to. And you’re less likely to get scammed if you can pick up on what they are saying. That’s one of the reasons I launched my podcast, We Travel There, is so that listeners can learn tips from locals to “travel like a local.”

Amsterdam to move its famed Red Light District in tourism ‘reset.’ – I understand the desire to move the brothels to a new location to create a new feel for the city. When I visited Amsterdam with my 8-year-old son in Fall 2019, we avoided the area because I didn’t want him exposed to it. However, I feel that the current environment will just be replicated in whatever the new location is. Those who want it will know where to find it. Those who want to avoid it will steer clear.
