IHG unveils updated upscale prototype.

Looks like IHG is upgrading its EVEN brand to attract high-end travelers. And there are a few new properties underway in the U.S. However, IHG already has several upscale/luxury brands (e.g. Kimpton, InterContinental, Mr. & Mrs. Smith), so I’m not sure how this one will differentiate itself.

3 things I think about when booking basic economy.

The three things I think about with basic economy are “no. no. no.” While you’ll save a few bucks, the restrictions just aren’t worth it for most flyers. You can’t cancel or change flights, can’t bring a carry-on bag, and are the last to board the plane. Instead of buying a basic economy ticket, save money on flights by earning miles to redeem for your flight.

American Airlines’ new cabin configurations target premium flyers.

American is planning to increase its premium economy seat count by 45% within the next four years. This will increase the price of the average plane ticket, and it may come at the expense of fewer Business and First Class seats on planes. They’re not making planes any bigger, so the extra room will have to come from somewhere.

A Hotel Kitchen May Not Save You Money After All.

One of the ways that we save money while traveling is to book hotels that offer free breakfast or have a kitchen. According to this study, hotel rooms with kitchens are 19% more expensive. While this extra cost can be a money saver for families, it may not be worth it if you’re traveling alone.

9 Beautiful Castles in America That You Can Visit.

When we think of visiting castles, Europe generally comes to mind. However, did you know that there are several breathtaking castles here in the U.S.? If you can’t travel overseas, plan your trips to see American castles and the nearby towns to support local businesses.

    • Yes, that is true. Same thing if you have the AA card. But, for the average traveler, it just isn’t worth it. Especially if you’re traveling with young kids and could be seated in different parts of the airplane. I only have AA Gold status since I bought it in Jan 20202 (good timing, right?). I travel probably 2-3 times a month, but I typically don’t qualify for elite status because most of my flights are using miles on a variety of airlines. For most travelers, elite status doesn’t make sense since lower levels of elite status don’t provide many benefits beyond what you’d get just by having the airline’s credit card.
