United Considers Selling 15% of MileagePlus to Investors. – Many people have said that airline loyalty programs are one of the airlines’ most valuable assets. In some cases, they might even make more money for the airline than flying passengers from Point A to Point B. Would you invest in a loyalty program?
Alaska Adding Dynamic Award Pricing On American. – Sadly, I think that all airline loyalty programs will eventually move to dynamic pricing to control costs and influence member behavior. This is just another step towards the inevitable. However, on the bright side, dynamic pricing can offer substantial savings on “web specials” and other promotions if you have flexibility in your travel dates and are open to certain destinations.
More Than 1.5 Million Payment Cards in the US Are Hacked. – This is why you should NEVER make purchases with a debit card. Even if you are careful, that doesn’t mean that the merchant is safely storing your card info. And, even when you’re using a credit card, you should review your statements every month to look for suspicious purchases. If you have access to virtual card numbers, use them when shopping online or over the phone.
Flying Frontier Airlines? Better lose 10 pounds from your checked bag. – While most airlines have made small increases to the checked bag fees, Frontier is handling things differently. They’re shrinking the standard checked bag size from 50lbs to 40lbs. If your bag is 41lbs to 50lbs, there’s a $50 charge. For bags over 50lbs, it is $100! Even more reason to travel light. This is why I use credit cards that provide free checked bags.
