Welcome to The Morning Shave for Friday, August 22, 2025. Passengers are suing airlines when there isn’t a window at their “window seat,” U.S. flight attendants may be going on strike soon, and hotels are evolving as remote workers impact demand for hotel rooms and amenities. The Morning Shave

It’s wasteful to leave your AC running while you’re away from home. It’s even worse when you’re on vacation for a few days or weeks. But you also shouldn’t turn off your AC completely because you could come home to horrible conditions in your house. I’ve seen videos of crazy amounts of mold throughout a house that was left locked up without any recirculating air. Find the right balance between keeping fresh air circulating and setting the temperature at an appropriate level so you aren’t wasting energy.

Airlines are always looking for ways to charge passengers extra. Selecting a seat is a huge money-maker for them, but this lawsuit may change some of that. Delta and United passengers have filed a lawsuit alleging they paid for window seat, but the seat didn’t actually have a window. As frequent travelers know, sometimes you have a window seat but there’s no window to look out of. Instead, you have a “plug” seat where the window is filled in. Has this ever happened to you? It’s happened to me more times than I want to admit. This will be an interesting lawsuit to follow.

Canadian flight attendants aren’t the only ones having a hard time negotiating with airlines over new contracts. Flight attendants in the U.S. may also resort to strikes or work stoppages in order to gain leverage and fight for fair pay and benefits. Be sure to use one of the best airline credit cards when booking your flights to ensure you have protection in case your flight is impacted by strikes at specific airlines or across the industry.

I think the rise of remote workers is leading to an increased demand for Airbnb and Vrbo properties over hotel stays. While it is nice to earn elite status and redeem those benefits, having full use of a home and all of its amenities (especially the kitchen) is more appealing to remote workers. Although the hotel maid will make your bed, clean the bathroom, and bring fresh linens & towels, a long-term stay property typically offers more comfortable living spaces that are embedded within local communities. Which do you prefer?

While most of these steps are common sense, it’s helpful to be reminded of them if you haven’t traveled in a while. One of my favorite tips is to buy a pass for local attractions instead of individual tickets. Not only can you save money if you use enough of the benefits, but these passes also introduce you to unique attractions that you may not have heard of or thought about visiting. Since the cost of the attraction is already included, you’re more likely to try something new that would have been harder to justify if you were paying an entrance fee. That’s one of the reasons why I like using the Get Out Pass. With this annual membership, you get free access to dozens of attractions in the local area, and they have passes for regions/states all across the U.S., like the Nashville Get Out Pass.
