Continuing with my conquest of independent hotels across the country, I came across The Hotel Valencia Riverwalk in San Antonio, Texas, and was charmed right away by their luxurious demeanor they demonstrated on their website. After researching many San Antonio hotels, I decided to give this one a shot – and was very happy with my choice!

Hotel Valencia Riverwalk Location
The Hotel Valencia Riverwalk, located in heart of Downtown, has a great style and class, without it feeling too stuffy. In a city rich with history, this hotel puts you right in the middle of it all! With so many interesting attractions in San Antonio, such as The Alamo and The Riverwalk, everything is a short walk from the doorsteps of the Hotel Valencia Riverwalk!
Booking a room at Hotel Valencia Riverwalk
The Hotel Valencia Riverwalk offers several room options to fit your needs and budget. Traditional rooms are up to 375 sq ft and offer views of the city or the courtyard. Deluxe Balcony rooms are a little bigger at up to 400 sq ft and have a balcony you can sit on to enjoy the fresh air. Riverview rooms are the largest at up to 425 sq ft… and, you guessed it, offer a view of the San Antonio Riverwalk. And then there are Courtyard and Riverview Balcony rooms that are up to 400 sq ft and provide a view of the courtyard or Riverview, respectively.
While I have basically written off using hotel points, you can still use points like from Barclay Arrival to offset your expenses or the 4th-night free benefit from the Citi Prestige to save up to 25% on longer stays. I booked my room through Expedia and was pleasantly surprised when rates were around $225 for the night.

The Traditional King Room
Staying in the “Traditional” King room was the best option for me. The room is spacious enough at 350 square feet and had a great array of Texas-sized amenities. I’ve never seen such a large desk area in a hotel room before in my life! This would be great for those last-minute work projects or laying out a great Texas-style dinner for yourself.
The Hotel Valencia Riverwalk website even offers floor plans of their rooms so you can get a better feel for your room layout ahead of your stay.
I would say though as a fair warning that some common areas of the hotel was under construction so I was not able to get too many pictures of the inside to do it justice, but it looks like it is going to be beautiful! They did a great job of keeping the noise to a minimum. Kudos for allowing me to sleep in!
San Antonio Riverwalk & the History
What I found really unique about the Hotel Valencia Riverwalk Hotel is the architecture and interior design.
Being on the San Antonio Riverwalk, there is a great pride in tradition and keeping the culture as rich as possible. While walking around and talking with locals, you can sense the immense pride of the Alamo and the culture. Right down the river from the Hotel Valencia there are many missions you can visit and see the history of Texas since the 1500’s – very interesting stuff!
The Bald Thoughts
If you are in town for a history lesson, a San Antonio Spurs game, or are needing your fix of some mouth-watering Tex-Mex food, I recommend the San Antonio Riverwalk Hotel very highly! It has a great location right on the riverwalk and the atmosphere and ambiance is a great way to get the full Texas experience while visiting.
