How To Avoid High Hotel Prices for Big Events Like Football Games.
As a huge sports fan, I know that hotel prices can skyrocket and make going to the game unaffordable. Living in Nashville, there are a TON of UT fans who love to attend games (including my buddy Ross who wrote this article). And when there’s a big game in Knoxville, everyone crams into the city, and the lowly Hyatt Place turns into a $1,000+ a night adventure. However, when you use hotel points instead of cash, you can find huge savings and extreme value for your points.
United to close invite-only Newark restaurant in favor of Polaris Lounge expansion.
I’m sad to hear the Classified at Newark is closing. I had the joy of eating breakfast there last summer, and (while it was VERY expensive) it was truly unique. In a world of overstuffed lounges and waiting lists, this was one of the last remaining exclusive experiences that travelers can get at the airport. It’s good that United is expanding its Polaris Lounge, but I wish that they’d keep Classified open. Were you ever able to visit Classified?
Marriott to Pay $52M Fine Over Data Breaches.
While $52 million is a large number, it is a drop in the bucket for a global company like Marriott. With so many hotels and loyalty programs demanding evermore personal data from travelers, I hope this fine teaches them a lesson to safeguard our information better. Were you #Bonvoyed by this data breach?
United Airlines Increases Premier Status Requirements.
If United MileagePlus is your preferred airline loyalty program, we have bad news for you. The airline just increased requirements to earn elite status across the board. You’ll now need 6,000 PQPs to earn Silver or 28,000 PQPs for 1K status (or less with the requisite number of flights). How does this make you feel about United vs. its competitors?
You Can Get Kicked Off a Plane for Being Barefoot — and 14 Other Reasons You Can Be Removed From a Flight.
Just because you CAN get kicked off a flight for being barefoot, that doesn’t mean you WILL get kicked off. I’ve seen wayyyyy too many ugly toes on flights. Some of these rules on the list are common sense (ex: don’t be violent or abusive), while others are puzzling (ex: being stinky). I wouldn’t want to sit next to someone with poor hygiene on a 6-hour flight, but I didn’t realize they could be kicked off for not showering properly.
