I was on a recent business trip and I was flying to London for my first time. When booking the reservation, I saw there was an option to upgrade for 20,000 miles. I transfer some points from one of my travel credit cards and within minutes I was able to confirm the upgrade with miles for United Airlines Polaris 777-200 business class.

United Airlines Polaris 777-200 IAD to LHR
I was excited to fly United Polaris for my second time. The first time I flew United Polaris was from Los Angeles to Shanghai. Of all my travels, this flight would be my first time on a Boeing 777-200 airplane. What makes a Boeing 777-200 so interesting? Well, in Bussiness Class, the seats face the opposite way.
Pre-Boarding Service
Upon finding my seat, I was greeted with Saks Fifth Avenue bedding to use for sleeping. After setting down, the flight attendant welcomed me and offered me pre-boarding champagne.
Meal Service
One thing I really enjoy about flying United Polaris is they allow you to have a wine tasting at 35,000 feet in the air. I’m usually not a wine type of person but hey, I never turn down a free tasting! The three wines I tried were 2014 Bouchard Pere & Fils Pinot Noir, 2014 Kir-Yianni Red Blend, 2014 Benziger Family Winery Cabernet.
For my appetizer, I was served Thai-style lemongrass shrimp with a papaya mango salad.
I chose to pick the Spinach Pasta for my main dish. The sauce was creamy and delicious. It complimented the pasta very nicely.
I was offered a cheese plate with grapes after my main dish.
My favorite of any meal service, Dessert! I chose to take a strawberry sundae and an apple pie.
After dessert, I was in a much deep food coma and it was time to sleep. I only slept about 3 hours because the flight was roughly 7 and half hours long.
About two hours before landing we were served breakfast. It tasted like something I would eat on Delta Airlines domestic First Class.
The Baldthoughts
Overall, the flight experience was similar to my flight I took from LAX to Shanghai. I enjoyed United Airline’s consistency when it comes to food and service. I received a lounge access voucher to freshen up when I arrived. Even though the flight was fairly short, upgrading to business class was worth it to feel rested when I landed.
