Southwest Fare Sale Promotions
Southwest is my favorite airline because it runs regular promotions throughout the year that allow travelers to save money. With its free flight change/cancellation policy, you can book now to lock in the best price and rebook later for free if the price drops.
Up to 30% Off on Amazon Prime Day
Amazon Prime Day is a huge way for people to save money on travel. Southwest is getting in on the action by allowing travelers to save up to 30% off base fares when they use the promo code “PRIME” on eligible flights. Book flights using this Southwest promo page on July 16th or 17th for travel on select flights from August 6th through December 18th.

Through this promotion, there are some blackout dates and availability varies based on your travel destinations. The promotion is good for flights paid with cash or points.
Continental flights
- The code is good for travel within the continental U.S. from August 6th through December 8th.
- Blackout dates for continental travel are 9/2, 10/14, 11/22-11/27, and 11/29-12/2.
International, Hawaii and Puerto Rico
- Flights to Hawaii, Puerto Rico and international destinations are available from August 13th through December 17th.
- Blackout dates to these destinations include 8/29-9/3 and 11/21-11/25. Flights from these destinations are blacked out 8/29-9/3 and 11/29-12/3.
Southwest $54 Fare Sale
Book flights out of LaGuardia for as little as $54. The Southwest fare calendar is open through March 5, 2025, so you can book flights out almost 9 months in advance. There’s no promotion code necessary and this sale is good for flights starting July 30, 2024. However, there are limits on the number of seats available, the days you can travel and which airports you can fly to. Use the airline’s search tool to find the lowest fares on your next trip.
Wanna Go Wednesdays
Throughout the summer, Southwest is offering limited-time discounts to travelers who book flights on Wednesdays. Wanna Go Wednesdays deals change every week, so set your calendar to take advantage of these specials.
For example, the deals on Wednesday, July 17th, included fares for travel from July 24 through August 6, 2024. On the WGW page, enter your departure airport to view what flight deals are available. Here’s a sample of the one-way fares I found (prices starting at):
- From Boston – Baltimore ($196)
- From Ft Lauderdale – Atlanta ($177), New Orleans ($101), or Syracuse ($189)
- From Nashville – Austin, TX ($194) or Minneapolis ($119)
- From Ontario, CA – Las Vegas ($195)
- From Raleigh, NC – Sarasota ($195)
- From St Louis – Dallas ($130) or Minneapolis ($169)
Save $250 on Mexico and Jamaica vacation packages.
Travelers looking for a beach getaway can save $250 on a vacation package to Cancun or Jamaica. Since we’ve moved to Nashville, Cancun has been one of our favorite destinations to thaw out during the winter.

Which credit cards should you use during the Southwest Fare Sale?
If you’re planning to book a flight during this Southwest fare sale, earn extra rewards toward your next trip by using the right credit card. These credit cards offer some of the best rewards, benefits and travel protections on flights.
- Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority Card. Southwest offers multiple cards for consumers and business owners, but this one is my favorite. While it has a high annual fee, it comes with an annual $75 Southwest credit, 7,500 bonus points upon renewal, and 4 Upgraded Boardings per year (a savings of more than $120). You’ll earn 3x points on Southwest flights and all points earned count toward the Southwest Companion Pass.
- Capital One Venture X Card. Not only will you earn 2x miles on your flights, but you can also redeem miles to cover travel purchases up to 90 days after the transaction date. For travelers on a budget, the Capital One Venture Card does the same for a much smaller annual fee.
- Chase Sapphire Reserve. This card earns 3x points on all travel purchases (after the $300 travel credit) and offers the best travel protections of any card I’ve reviewed.
- American Express Platinum Card. When you book travel directly with the airlines (or through Amex Travel), you’ll earn 5x points on the first $500,000 you spend on air travel each year. Plus, the card includes a $200 airline fee credit that may cover some of your costs.
