The Morning Shave

Prost! Here are the best places to celebrate Oktoberfest in America. – Oktoberfest is just around the corner. And while many of us can’t fly to Germany to partake in the celebration, there are still amazing alternatives here in the U.S. Have you been to any of them?

Your Flight Is Canceled. See What Each Airline Is Supposed to Offer You. – The compensation varies by airline, so learn what you’ll receive in case your flight is canceled. Depending on what they offer, you may want to book a different flight to avoid being stuck. And, as always, book your flight with a travel credit card that includes travel benefits, like trip cancellation, interruption, and delay protections.

Travel loyalty programs ‘need to get better.’ How to choose one that won’t lose value. – While this is a good thought exercise, here’s a little tip… “all airline and hotel loyalty programs get devalued every couple of years.” The only way to avoid it is to focus on cash back credit cards and avoid miles & points altogether. But that’s not a good choice either. The best option is to earn rewards intentionally and redeem them for a specific trip, then rinse & repeat for the next vacation.

Hear pilot make announcement after passenger caught sending nude photos. – Can we please stop the sexual harassment on planes (and everywhere else)? This is just stupid, and the pilot has better things to do with his/her time than being a babysitter. I turn off Airdrop on all of our devices for anyone that isn’t on our contact list. With people acting like juveniles, I suggest that you do the same.

Bumping rates creep up as airlines manage oversold planes. – The majority of bumps happen on American, Southwest, and Frontier. While bumping can be a problem, it is also an opportunity if you have flexible travel plans. And some airlines allow you to proactively volunteer through their mobile app when there might be an oversold situation. Whenever I can, I volunteer and hope for the best. I’ll gladly take some extra cash to fund our vacations.
