Kimpton has been expanding like crazy since it was acquired by IHG in 2014. Although some properties have left the brand, the number of new hotels has continued to grow its footprint. There are 17 planned new Kimpton hotels in 2020 with a mix of domestic and international locations. Which will be your favorite?

About Kimpton Hotels
Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants is a luxury boutique hotel brand that is part of the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) family of hotels. It was rated one of Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2019. The hotel brand is well known for its diversity and inclusive attitude towards its guests and employees. Examples of this inclusiveness include Kimpton’s Drag Brunch and support of the Trevor Project.
It has a devoted following of members who fawn over it on social media. Just search the keyword #KimptonLove to see examples of Kimpton’s ability to surprise and delight its loyal members.
Whether you have elite status or not, enjoy the nightly Wine Hour from 5 pm to 6 pm. You’ll receive a complimentary glass of red or white wine while you meet other guests and chat with hotel staff. Some properties offer beers, spirits, and hors d’oeuvres that have a local twist to them.

Kimpton Hotels Lost in 2019
It hasn’t been all rosy for Kimpton in its bid to expand across the globe. There have been a few departures from the brand this year. Some will be missed more than others. But with such a small footprint, you hate to see any of the current properties leave.
Here are the hotels that left Kimpton in 2019:
- Donovan Hotel in Washington, D.C. – now part of Viceroy
- Grand Hotel in Minneapolis, Minnesota – now part of Hyatt
- Madera in Washington, D.C. – now independent
- Mason & Rook in Washington, D.C. – now part of Viceroy
- Topaz in Washington, D.C. – currently closed
- Zamora in St Petersburg, Florida – now independent
There are rumors that some other properties may also leave Kimpton if Hyatt buys a portfolio of properties from Xenia Hotels. We’ll hear about it in 2020 if that sale goes through.
New Kimpton Hotels Planned Beyond 2020
Some hotels take longer to plan, renovate, and open. Kimpton has already announced tentative dates for new Kimpton hotels beyond 2020. These locations include:
- Roatan, Honduras in 2021
- Shanghai, China in 2021
- St George, Grenada in 2021
- Rotterdam, Amsterdam in 2022
- Hong Kong in 2023
- Frankfurt, Germany in 2024
I’m sure that even more new hotels will be announced throughout 2020. We’ll be sure to share detailed whenever we find something out.
The Bald Thoughts
I can’t wait for these new Kimpton hotels in 2020 to open. I have a few trips already planned for a couple of these destinations. If they open in time, it would be awesome to stay there. Since many of these locations are short flights from Nashville, I’m looking forward to booking a few weekend getaways to try them out.
