Hyatt Acquires Standard Hotels Parent Company for Up to $335 Million.

Hyatt has a smaller portfolio than Hilton, Marriott and IHG, but it continues to expand through acquisitions and new openings. With its acquisition of Standard Hotels, several new brands will join its portfolio to earn and redeem points, including StandardX, Peri Hotels, and The Manner.

Thousands of Hotel Workers Could Go on Strike This Fall.

According to the hotel workers union, Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, and Omni employees at properties in seven U.S. cities have voted to authorize strikes later this year. Be careful if you’re traveling to one of these cities. Your stay may be interrupted, and you may want to avoid crossing the picket line to support the union workers.

Travel Isn’t Dead. It’s Just Taking A Vacation.

While there has been some softening of demand, consumers and business travelers still want to book trips. However, they’re waiting until closer to the departure date before booking.
