Our Treehouse at Horse Cave KOA
During our last visit to Horse Cave KOA, we stayed in one of their incredible Conestoga Wagons and the treehouses were under construction. While staying in a wagon was a fun and unique experience, I liked the idea of having more space so our family of four could spread out. And having a bathroom in our unit is always high on the list for Anna and the kids.
So we were very excited to stay in one of the treehouses at this campsite and explore the local attractions in Horse Cave, Kentucky.

When you arrive at Horse Cave KOA, you’ll check in at the front to grab keys to your unit and a parking pass. The treehouse units both have two parking spaces, which is useful when multiple adults are making the trip.
Since it is a treehouse, there are a couple of flights of steps. This provides amazing views of the fields. However, all of the steps can make it difficult for travelers with disabilities to navigate.
At the bottom of the treehouse, guests have a fire pit that they can enjoy. We had a great time sharing stories, roasting marshmallows, and having some cold beverages. If you didn’t bring wood or goodies to make s’mores, stop by the front office or drive to one of the local stores.
When you reach the top of the stairs, you’ll find the entrance to the unit. If you walk around the corner, there is an outdoor couch, a table, and a BBQ. The couch is an excellent spot to watch the sunset, stargaze, or relax with your loved ones. Since there’s a kitchen inside, you can also BBQ instead of going out to eat for all of your meals.
Inside the Horse Cave KOA Treehouse
As you enter the door into the Horse Cave KOA treehouse, you’re greeted with a spacious living area with a couch, a full kitchen, and a spacious bathroom with a shower.
Relax and watch TV by the fireplace. When the weather is nice, open the sliding glass door to enjoy the fresh air or walk out to the patio.
Save money by preparing meals in the fully-stocked kitchen. The large fridge can hold everything from snacks and drinks to everything you need for a meal for your family and friends. There’s a full-size oven, cooktop, microwave, and a sink within your reach for all of your cooking needs.
When you need privacy, head to the bedroom for rest and relaxation. The wood-paneled room embraces the wilderness. Yet, you have a TV and private temperature control to stay comfortable.
The Horse Cave KOA treehouse also features an open loft above the bedroom. You’ll find two beds perfect for the kids or your travel companions. Just watch out for the slanted ceiling so you don’t bonk your head.
The spacious bathroom is adjacent to the front door and includes a shower with a tub. There’s also a full-length mirror so you can check your outfit to ensure all of your photos will be Insta-worthy.
Things to Do When Staying at Horse Cave KOA
The family and friends adventure at Horse Cave KOA goes beyond the treehouse, Conestoga wagon, or campsite accommodations you choose. There’s so much to do at the campground, in the nearby cities, and in Bowling Green (a short drive away).
At the Campground
During your stay at Horse Cave KOA, you get complimentary access to the pool, playground, volleyball and basketball courts, mini golf, and jumping pillow. My kids loved the jumping pillow and jumped for hours.
Horse Cave KOA also has a Super Mega Slide, but it is only open when they have enough staff available to run it. Stop by the camp office to request someone to open the slide.
Of course, a summertime vacation wouldn’t be complete without a dip in the pool. While the pool is relatively small, it was a great way to cool off after hiking in the afternoon heat.
There’s also a Kamp K9 dog park for guests traveling with their pets. Guests also have access to free WiFi during their stay.
In addition to these complimentary amenities, you can also rent golf carts to get around the campground. At the camp store, there is a wide variety of supplies and goodies available for purchase. Wood for campfires and s’mores kits are popular items for many guests.
Nearby attractions in Hart County
While many travelers haven’t heard of Hart County before, there are numerous family-friendly and affordable activities. Here are a few of our favorite things to do in Horse Cave and Hart County, Kentucky.
- Kentucky Down Under. Feed kangaroos, wallabies, emu, lorikeets and more at this unique experience featuring animals from Australia, the U.S. and around the world.
- Mammoth Onyx Cave. Located inside Kentucky Down Under, this incredible cave tour is included in your admission. The cave was discovered in 1799 and opened to public tours in 1922. Tours happen several times a day and typically last 30-45 minutes.
- Hidden River Cave. In the middle of downtown Horse Cave, there lies a spectacular cave just below street level. Blink, and you may even miss it! This tour runs 60-75 minutes and features the longest underground suspension bridge. You’ll go 150 feet underground and end at Sunset Dome.
- American Cave Museum. Learn about the history and science of caves and the animals that live there. You can also book a rappelling adventure at the mouth of Hidden River Cave.
- Dutch Country Safari Park. Enjoy a ride through the safari while you get up close and personal with the animals. Be sure to feed the baby goats and pet the kangaroos before seeing the reptile enclosures inside the barn.

Caves, Corvettes, and More in Bowling Green
Just a few miles down the road, you’ll find even more family-friendly attractions in Bowling Green for kids and adults of all ages.
- National Corvette Museum. See rare and vintage Corvettes as you explore this museum dedicated to the most popular American-made muscle car. Don’t miss the exhibit detailing the sinkhole that literally swallowed part of the museum in the middle of the night.
- Mammoth Cave National Park. A unique national park featuring over 300 miles of caves. This park is so big that they still haven’t found the end of the cave system. Depending on the time of year, there are more than a dozen cave tours to choose from, or you can hike the above-ground trails for free.
- Lost River Cave. This cave is unique because visitors tour through an underground boat instead of walking. Outside the cave are 2+ miles of scenic hiking trails, a butterfly habitat, and gem mining.
- Historic Railpark. Take a ride through history to learn about the historic rail cars and how they impacted the local community.
- Chaney’s Dairy Farm. Grab some fresh-made ice cream and see how milk and ice cream are made at this family-run dairy farm.
Where is Horse Cave KOA Located?
Horse Cave KOA is located in Hart County, Kentucky. It is about 30-40 minutes from Bowling Green and 90 minutes north of Nashville. Since we live in Nashville, it is an excellent spot for a weekend getaway with family and friends.
How Much is it to Book a Treehouse at Horse Cave KOA?
Reservation prices vary throughout the year based on the weather, popularity of travel dates, and other factors. Additionally, prices can vary depending on which day of the week you’re booking a stay. There are two treehouses and a variety of other types of accommodations, which gives travelers a good chance of booking one on their desired dates.
To give you an idea of how much it will cost to book a night in one of the Horse Cave KOA treehouses, I priced out a long weekend stay in June 2025. These are base rates, so taxes and fees may apply to your total price.
