Post-Vacation Blues? Here’s How to Cope.

Studies show that the anticipation of going on a trip is almost as beneficial as actually going on the trip. No wonder there’s such a big letdown emotionally, physically and mentally when you get back. In my opinion, the best way to combat this situation is to already be working on the next trip by the time you get back from the first one. This gives you something to look forward to when you return to the day-to-day drudgery of commuting, cubicle life and endless meetings in the office.

Southwest Airlines plans drastic boarding and seating changes.

Southwest has been struggling financially, so the venture capital and private equity sharks have been circling. I agree that Southwest needs to reinvigorate the brand to generate more revenue and increase customer satisfaction. However, making it a carbon copy of the other U.S. airlines isn’t exactly a solid plan to differentiate itself in the market. If they move to assigned seats and board passengers based on status/fare, they will upset more people than they make happy.

Baja California Sur to Enforce Mandatory $25 Tourist Tax.

Cabo has been one of our favorite vacation destinations for the last decade. When we lived in SoCal, it was a quick flight without changing time zones. Perfect for a long weekend getaway or when taking advantage of holiday travel. This $25 fee was optional when it was introduced in 2022, and now the local government is making it mandatory starting in October. While you may not agree with these fees, this is a common practice in popular destinations. Rather than taxing the locals who vote, it is better to tax travelers who don’t. Personally, paying a few bucks extra per day won’t stop us from traveling to Cabo. Would you change your travel plans?

5 Airline Rules That Are Newer Than You Think.

There seem to be a lot of rules when flying nowadays. Although they may seem like they’ve always applied, many of these rules and fees haven’t been around that long. In fact, most of them have happened in the last 20 years. If you were to change one thing about flying, which of these rules would you get rid of first?

IHG negatively changed its dynamic award pricing algorithm: Here’s what we know.

IHG has slowly been wrecking the value of its loyalty program since it started rolling out dynamic pricing in 2020. It seems that many properties are now offering a value of just 0.5 to 0.6 cents per point, which is basically turning it into a fixed-price redemption program (like Southwest or JetBlue). One of the main reasons for being “loyal” to a brand is the opportunity to get outsized value when redeeming points. While having one of the IHG credit cards gets you the 4th night free on award stays and a bump in your points’ value, not everyone has one of their cards or is staying for four nights.
