I’m always on the lookout for new sources of cheap flight deals. I usually redeem airline miles for flights, but some deals are so amazing that it doesn’t make sense to use miles for the flight. Here’s my review of Whiskr and why you should consider adding this site to your arsenal of cheap flight deals.

What is Whiskr?
Whiskr’s founders have been in the cheap flight deal segment of the travel market since 2012. It originally started as an email service that shared deals the founders found through their manual searches.
Manual is just not fast enough in today’s instantaneous environment.
So, the founders dedicated time and money to automate the process. Whiskr was created through the fusion of experience and automated technology.
Whiskr locates cheap flight deals with advanced technology and checks availability at least 4 times a day to ensure displayed deals are up-to-date and not sold out. Currently, only Economy class airfares for domestic and international destinations are available on Whiskr, but Business and First Class flight searches are on the to-do list.
You can browse all of the deals across the Whiskr site for the 300-500 active deals at any one time, or filter deals to show only your preferred airports. When a deal pops up, you can be notified via text, email, or both based on how you like to be contacted.
How does Whiskr find cheap flight deals?
Whiskr has developed a technology that scours more than 400,000 airfares every day searching for cheap flight deals. They use a custom database of 264 million fares to evaluate pricing history to uncover deals that offer massive savings.
On average, the deals that Whiskr shares are 46% lower than the average ticket price! That’s like having a permanent 2-for-1 coupon on all your flights.
Does Whiskr charge for cheap flight deals?
Whiskr offers a free daily email with their top 10 cheap flight deals. However, if you’re like me, the “free” versions of most email lists don’t always cover my home airports or destinations that I am interested in traveling to.
You can receive a free 14-day trial where you can sample their cheap flight deals and use their advanced features to uncover the value of membership. Because Whiskr doesn’t require you to provide a credit card for this free trial, you don’t need to worry about forgetting to cancel and getting charged accidentally!
If you’re ready to sign up for Whiskr, you can save up to 35% if you choose the annual payment plan for $39.99 vs. the monthly payment plan of $4.99 or quarterly plan of $12.99 every 3 months.
Using Whiskr to find cheap flight deals
When you go to Whiskr, you can browse through all of the deals without needing to subscribe. You’ll only receive a sample of the deals but can subscribe via email to receive the top 10 cheap flight deals each day.
Once you subscribe, you can pick your “home” airports, which are the cities that you want flight deals for. I chose all of the SoCal airports and some others that are cheap & easy flights from Los Angeles, such as San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Phoenix.
Here is a sample of the recent flight deals from Whiskr.
Notice that you can sort for the latest deals, the “best” deals (not quite sure what qualifies as best), cheapest CPM (cost per mile), or cheapest based on total price.
The cheapest CPM is an excellent source of flights for people looking to do mileage runs to achieve status. I don’t chase status, but I know many people that do. One of the flights from LAX to Kuala Lumpur was 8810 miles for only $404, which is a measly 4.5 cents per mile!
The Whiskr search tool is very flexible allowing you to choose:
- Destination airport or region
- Limit pricing based on total price of CPM (cost per mile)
- Airline or airline alliance
Unlike most cheap flight deals websites, Whiskr even includes options to search for low-cost airlines like Southwest, JetBlue, and Spirit.
Imagine all of the possibilities!
Where to find Cheap Flight Deals
There are plenty of competing sites for cheap flight deals that you are probably familiar with, like The Flight Deal and Secret Flying. TFD and SF are free and offer deals similar to Whiskr, but they don’t offer a premium subscription. Instead, they count on you using their affiliate links to generate income.
Secret Flying is in a bit of hot water after their Super Bowl tweet promised free flights to everyone if the Patriots came back to win… and then they backed out of it when the Patriots won in overtime.
What these free sites lack is the ability to notify you as soon as a cheap flight deal is released. Whiskr pulls the data automatically direct from the source while many other cheap flight deal sites get their information secondhand. This means that their deals are often 3-5 hours old when they get the data… and by the time you see the deal, it is possible that the deal is no longer being offered or the dates that you want are no longer available.
The way I look at it is if you subscribe to a service like Whiskr, you’ll save so much money on just one flight deal the small fee will be totally worth it.
The Bald Thoughts
The best cheap flight deals usually sell out within hours (if not minutes). Many sites offer cheap flight deals, but their technology is usually manual and the information can be out of date pretty quickly. I like Whiskr because they’ve figured out how to automatically find deals and notify subscribers via text and/or email when deals are released that fit your preferences. And getting to the deals first is the best way to ensure you don’t miss out on the deal of a lifetime to your dream destination.
Thx for this tip, Lee. the next time I am booking a trip, I will definitely check out Whiskr before I do. I’ve pinned your post for future reference and am happy to share. Cheers!
Thanks Doreen. There is a 14-day free trial, so definitely check that out. I’m normally all about using miles and points to pay for flights, but some are so cheap that you’re better off paying with cash.
I had never heard of Whiskr before reading this. If the prices are 46% lower than the average ticket, I’m going to have to give it a shot for our next trip. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for reading. Not all fares are life-changing, but some are pretty phenomenal. Keep poking around and I’m sure you’ll find at least one to warrant signing up. All it takes is one deal to pay for the subscription!
Thanks for sharing this, Lee. I had not heard of Whiskr before and I am checking them out right now. I am like you, and I use credit card points to hack my travel. But if a flight is cheap enough, I’d rather save my points for when I truly need them.
Thanks Taylor! When I book cash fares, I use cards like Barclay Arrival or Capital One Venture so I can offset the expense with their points.
I have never even heard of whiskr before! thank you so much for opening this whole new door! I am stoked to get researching! thank you!!
I’d never heard of this company before but I’m going to add them to my flight-hunt journeys! Always good to have other options, thanks.
I didn’t even know about Whiskr until I read this. Being a frequent traveler I am always looking for cheap deals. I would love to try this. The 14 day free trial makes sense.
Please write back and let us know what you think after you’ve done the free trial!
Whiskr sounds like a great tool. With those kind of deals, the membership fee could pay for itself on your first flight. We’ll check this out for sure.
Interesting. Though I wonder if they have anything for india. It would be amazing if they do. Will be checking it out
I am not sure if they have for India, since I haven’t heard of them yet. But this is really a wonderful way to save on airfare if you can make use of whiskr. I would like to, if I am flying between places which it has deals on.
Flight costs are the largest component of the travel budget. Hence it always helps if we can get better deals on flights. Before finalizing our flights we do a lot of research and visit number of sites to get the best deals. Have not used Whiskr before, however will check it out if we can get a good deal.
I had never heard of these guys before so have signed up to their free trial and it looks pretty cool so far. Will be interesting to see if they can beat some of the deals I’ve gotten recently and hopefully I can score some great prices for my future flights.
Thanks for signing up for a free trial. Please write back and let me know what you think.
Nice to know one more website to get some deals on fights. I just checked for my trip from Vancouver, Canada to Mexico and fund a great deal. Must say this came to me at the right time. Cheers.
Awesome. Glad you found a killer deal right away!
