JetBlue to Buy Spirit Airlines for $3.8 Billion. – This truly was the best decision for travelers, shareholders, and the overall industry. Although JetBlue isn’t a low-cost carrier like Frontier or Spirit, their expanded presence will put downward pressure on airfares as they compete with the big boys as the 5th-largest airline in the U.S.

At Southwest Airlines, flight credits no longer expire. – Southwest isn’t perfect, and it took far too long for this change to happen, but they continue to be the most customer-friendly airline in the U.S. I’m sure many of us took unnecessary flights just so that our flight credits wouldn’t expire.

These Cities Have Seen the Largest Increase in Airfare Prices This Year, Study Shows. – Their study shows that average flight prices have increased by 26% compared to last year. While large cities experienced increases, the biggest price jumps were in small airports that serve smaller metro areas. Buying cash tickets can help you earn more miles and elite status, but booking flights to these cities using miles might be the best way to save cash.

Aeroplan Devaluation Is Coming, Get Ready For Changes To Flight Reward Chart. – Changes are coming effective September 1st, so book some flights now to retain the value of your Air Canada points. These changes should be expected given Aeroplan’s launch of a new credit card and massive push into the U.S. market. While you may still find good value in redeeming Aeroplan points, expect to see prices up to 10% higher starting 4 weeks from now.

Why Air Travel Is Breaking Down At All Levels. – A comprehensive look at the airline problems that are plaguing travelers who just want to fly after two years of dealing with COVID. There isn’t a singular boogeyman that we can blame, but a culmination of multiple issues that magnify the problems exponentially. My feeling is that the biggest issue is that, in an effort to peak efficiency and maximize profits, there is no slack in the system… which means that one small issue can domino quickly and create carnage across the airline’s operations.
