The Morning Shave
Have Loyalty Programs Gotten Lazy? They Could Make More Money and Benefit Members at the Same Time. – A lot of good points by Gary and in the underlying story. Simple tweaks could pick meaningful low-hanging fruit that could really boost the bottom lines of airlines and hotels. Maybe then they wouldn’t need to nickel and dime us for conveniences that used to be free.
Superrich Nigerians are ordering pizza from London and having it delivered by British Airways, government minister says. – Ok, maybe that Nigerian prince that keeps emailing me really does have money to spare? HAHA This is ridiculous. And it is odd to believe that pizzas delivered from London have an effect on local farmers.
Asking your boss for extra days off after a business trip. – This is a smart strategy if you can pull it off. The approach I used was to show my boss printouts of flight prices for the day I was supposed to come back and the day I wanted to fly home. As long as the prices were similar, there usually wasn’t a problem. If there was a difference, I would offer to pay the difference. You could always book on Southwest and change the return date for free once the flight was booked. This way, nobody would need to know that you flew home Friday evening or sometime over the weekend.
The Most Beautiful Hotel Pools in the World. – The pools are absolutely gorgeous. If most of these hotels weren’t so expensive, I would be booking flights right now instead of writing this article. I think my favorites are the IHG Hotel Indigo Hong Kong, the cube in Fiji, and the African pools overlooking the safari. Which ones are your favorite?
Travel Tip Tuesday: Don’t prepay gas when renting a car. – A little voice inside your head probably tells you it is a bad idea to prepay for a tank of gas, but you aren’t quite sure why. This article gives a good summary of why you shouldn’t prepay for gas for your rental car. In most cases, you will find a gas station during the last few miles on your way back to the rental car location. Even if they charge you for a gallon of gas, those inflated prices are still cheaper than an entire tank of gas.
