The Morning Shave
Thai Airways Flight Delayed Because Off-Duty Pilots Wanted First Class Seats. – A (not so) gentle reminder that the airlines are always in control. True even after you’ve paid for your flight, been issued a boarding pass, and have taken your seat. It’s incredulous that this couldn’t have been resolved quicker than 2 1/2 hours. Cooler heads should have prevailed and the pilots should have taken the other seats without disrupting passengers.
When Exactly to Buy Your Next International Flight, According to a Study of 350 Million Fares. – Great information. You may not find the absolute lowest price, but if you can get within 5% to 10% of it, consider it a major win! In cases like this, I use the Capital One Venture Card to purchase any flight on any airline without worrying about blackout dates.
Hilton Announces New Micro Hotel Brand – Motto by Hilton. – I’m not sure why hotel chains feel the need to keep creating new hotel brands, but as long as they are investing, we are all beneficiaries. This brand seems targeted as Millennials and people who stay at hostels. The rooms are very small and try to have multiple uses for each space. What do you think about “Motto”?
United has every right to demand customers pay for hidden-city tickets. – United may have the rights based on legal language that is included in the “contract” when you buy a ticket, but this is a bad PR move. Whatever revenue United may have gained from this stunt, they have lost even more in bad PR and opportunity cost. People will eventually return to United, but their competition has gained plenty in the meantime.
Free National Car Rental Emerald Club Executive Elite status for American Express cardholders. – I normally rent from Hertz, but it doesn’t hurt to take advantage of this promotion to have status in case I ever need it. This is especially helpful when National runs their promos for Rent 2, Get 1 free.
