Now that Kimpton has merged their Kimpton Karma Rewards loyalty program with IHG Rewards Club, there’s a lot going on. As a Kimpton Inner Circle member, I was automatically granted IHG Spire Elite status. I logged into my IHG to poke around a bit and noticed that I had “2 awards available” and I was excited to see what was waiting for me as an IHG Spire Elite awards surprise.

- Kimpton Indianapolis will open in 2020
- Chicago Seminars – My Kimpton IHG integration presentation
Did you receive an IHG Spire Rewards surprise?
When I first saw the notification, I was a bit upset, thinking that something happened to all of my free nights and that there were only 2 left.
So, I clicked through… and was pleasantly surprised by what I found.
I could choose between 25,000 IHG points added to my account or gifting IHG Platinum Elite status to a friend (who already has Gold Elite status). For $49 a year, my friends are better off applying for the Chase IHG credit card, getting 60-80K bonus points, and using the annual free night to stay at their favorite Kimpton property. Plus, I’m greedy, so I’ll be taking the 25,000 IHG points.
I already have Hertz President’s Circle status this year, with no guarantee that I’ll requalify for 2019, so I’m going to hold off on redeeming the Hertz Five Star status until a few days before the deadline of 12/31/2018 because it won’t do anything to help me right now.
The Bald Thoughts
Both of these perks were unexpected and a nice touch. I’ll be sure to put those 25,000 bonus points to good use on a future IHG stay (ok, it will most likely be a Kimpton). And I tend to rent with Hertz when I travel because I like getting a free car seat rental for Scarlett when I use any AAA promo code.
Have you checked your IHG account recently? I’d suggest that you log in and explore. You just may find out that additional perks are waiting for you. Please report back and let us know what you find (or if you didn’t get anything) in the comment section below.
