What is Hamilton?

In case you don’t know what the play Hamilton is about, here is how the website describes it:

HAMILTON is the story of America’s Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant from the West Indies who became George Washington’s right-hand man during the Revolutionary War and was the new nation’s first Treasury Secretary. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and Broadway, HAMILTON is the story of America then, as told by America now.

With book, music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda, direction by Thomas Kail, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler and musical supervision and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, HAMILTON is based on Ron Chernow’s biography of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton.

  1. I have been an Amex cardholder for many years. Tried all morning to try to get Hamilton pre-sale tix and have been unsuccesssful. The Amex website does not even show the LA Hamilton shows as a ticket option. The Pantages website says presale date is 4/26. The Ticketmaster website does not show an Amex pre-sale option and I can’t get a live body by phone today. What happened???

    • There are some dates that were not available for the Amex presale. For example, I wanted August 26, but those weren’t part of the presale. A lot of people have had problems getting through online and over the phone. After 30 minutes of waiting, I was finally able to get 6 tickets for Nov 4th. Keep trying! For example, this page at Ticketmaster offers the presale.

  2. Tried to get tickets today. Almost every time, after confirming i wasn’t a bot, the page would hang. Luckily, since i’ve scheduled many group outings at the Pantages, I got my hands on 149 group tickets last week, before presale even started! (and no, none are being sold on the open market for profit). And none could be purchased with credit card (one of the stipulations of the group sales was that it had to be paid for by check or cash. I’m not an MS expert, so i couldn’t get myself to buy $20K worth of giftcards and liquidate them without trepidation).

    • I had two browsers going (IE and Chrome) and it took about 30 mins of the wheel spinning before one search came back empty and the other search finding tickets. Glad you were able to get tickets ahead of everyone else! Enjoy the show. I’m excited to see what all the hoopla is about.

    • It did take a long time to be able to buy tickets for me. I spoke to a few people that called American Express this morning and were able to buy tickets. The best number to call is on the back of your Amex card. Good luck!
