We’re almost to the end of the year, but that doesn’t mean that you still can’t earn some extra money while shopping for Christmas. With the Discover it card bonus categories for Q4 2017, you can earn 5% cash back when shopping at Target and Amazon. Both of these stores have great deals during the Christmas shopping season as well as offering most of the basics you need on a daily basis, so it should be fairly easy to max out the $1500 spend to earn $75.
Register for Discover it Card Bonus Categories
Discover makes it super simple to register for the Discover it bonus categories for Q4 2017. Literally, all you need to do is log into your account via the Discover website or via the mobile app, then click on your Discover it card, and click on the “Activate” link.
Each quarter, the bonus categories will change, so keep an eye out on the Discover it bonus categories calendar (link only works when logged in to Discover) so you can know where to use your Discover card.
Discover has already released their 2018 schedule of Discover it cash back categories. They include:
- Q1 – gas stations and wholesale clubs
- Q2 – grocery stores
- Q3 – restaurants
- Q4 – Amazon and wholesale clubs
Even if you don’t normally plan on spending $1500 at these stores each quarter, consider pre-paying your expenses by buying gift cards that you can use later in the year or give out as gifts for birthdays or during the holidays.
The Bald Thoughts
Miles and points are great, but even the best redemptions have trouble reaching the value of 5% cash back. So, make sure that you register and max out these offers. Unfortunately, the registration is not retroactive. I set a Google Calendar reminder for myself so that I don’t forget to register my cards at the beginning of each quarter to ensure I receive the maximum cash back available.
