Ever since my stay at the Le Meridian in Mexico City, I’ve been choosing more at Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) properties. Even though I’m currently a Hilton Diamond member and I get the most benefits staying at a Hilton properties, I’m leaning towards changing my loyalty to SPG. I enjoy the refreshing amenities and luxury hotel properties the SPG portfolio offers. My recent trip to Boston had me looking for an alternative to the Hilton properties offered in downtown Boston because all of the Hilton Honors point redemptions were way too high. Luckily, I was able to find a good deal for the W Boston Hotel.

W Boston Hotel Room Overview

I was only able to book a room with two double beds since all of the other options occupancy were not available.

Next to my bed was a Homedics sound spa which played soothing music to fall asleep. A spinning power outlet was provided to help me charge all my electronics at once.

They offered another charging station that included all types of connectors in case you forgot to bring your charger for your phone.

A Keurig Station with 2 regular coffee, 1 decaffeinated, and 1 tea K-cups for quick and easy brewing was provided in the room.

Next to my bed was a Bose Sound Dock. This was great because I could listen to music before getting ready to go out at night. The sound quality of Bose products is unmatched and I’m happy to see this inside the W Boston hotel room.

The sink area offered spacious room to put your amenity kit off to the side and the faucet was high enough to wash items bigger than your hands underneath it.

The bathtub and shower head was standard and didn’t really offer any special uniqueness like a bigger tub or a free fall shower head.

The toilet had a separate sliding door inside the bathroom. It makes it easy for two people to share the bathroom and maintain privacy between the two.

The W Boston Hotel – The Gallery Restaurant

The Gallery restaurant provides hotel guest the comforts of fine dining without leaving the hotel. I took a red-eye flight and by the time I check-in I was starving for some food. It was a Friday night and Billy Crystal was performing next to the W Boston Hotel. The restaurant was extremely busy but the host accommodated me fairly quickly as I mentioned to her I was a guest in the hotel.

Food Service

Despite it being extremely busy, there was only one waitress for 20 tables in the restaurant. The food service at the Gallery was terrible and slow. It took over 10 minutes to even be acknowledged and another 5 minutes to just get water. When I finally got my food, it was cold and it seemed my waitress forgot to check on my food. Frustrated and hungry, I didn’t bother to bring it up to management because I already waited so long. I didn’t want to wait another 15 minutes for them re-cook it.  It was hard to determine the level of quality the food, however, the presentation was very nice.

The Bald Thoughts

The W Hotels have a style and standard features that make it stand out from the rest of the SPG portfolio of properties. The consistency of excellence is one of the main reasons that makes it so pleasant to stay at W Hotels. The W Boston Hotel exceeded my expectations. The central location of the W Boston Hotel makes exploring downtown Boston on foot a breeze. Even on colder months in Boston, hotel guests can launch Uber or Lyft and quickly get to iconic landmarks. Although I had a negative experience in their restaurant, the rest of my experience made up for it and I would recommend this hotel during your next stay in Boston.
